The
Bayside Academy of Music offers a comprehensive, well-rounded music
curriculum in addition to all of our fine academic and extra-curricular
programs. The program is designed to provide the most opportunities
- both musically and otherwise. Admission to this fine program is
determined by demonstrated skills and aptitudes as judged at an
audition. Below is a list of classes. Click for a short description.
JAZZ BAND 9 - 10 UD09 - UD10
Stuart A. Rubin
This band concentrates on "big band" style music including
swing, bop, blues, rock, "jazz" and dance band. Performance skills
including instrumental technique, phrasing, ensemble and solo performance
are learned. Public performances are a culminating activity and
an integral part of this course. This course is available to instrumentalists
who play Sax, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, Guitar, Bass, Piano and
Drums. Permission of the Department Assistant Principal is required.
CONCERT BAND 7 - 8 UD07 - UD08
John Benza
This course teaches performance skills. These include instrumental
technique, repertory study and musicianship. This is the most advanced
wind-instrument group at Bayside and performs music from many periods
and styles. Opportunities for solo performance are offered to students
who are capable. Public performances are both a culminating activity
and an integral part of this course. This course may be taken instead
of the required music class. Permission of the Department Assistant
Principal is required.
